Volkswagen's new ID. Cross brings a more affordable electric SUV to the lineup

Volkswagen has begun series production of the ID. Cross, an entry-level electric SUV built at its Pamplona, Spain plant, with CEO Thomas Schäfer calling it a “true Volkswagen.” The model is positioned to complement the T-Cross and compete as Volkswagen refreshes its lineup against Tesla and Chinese rivals such as BYD. Orders opened in July, starting at about €36,525 in Germany (around $42,000). Next month, a lower-priced Trend trim is due to start at about €36,525 (roughly $32,000). The ID. Cross uses the MEB+ platform and is offered with 37 kWh LFP or 52 kWh NMC batteries, offering up to 427 km WLTP range.
