Toyota has brought its new GR GT flagship V8 supercar to the UK ahead of sales next year, positioning the model as a 641 bhp rival to the Mercedes-AMG GT and the Aston Martin Vantage. The GR GT—named for Toyota’s Gazoo Racing performance division—is described as a “road-legal race car.” Toyota revealed the road version and a GT3-spec racing version at the same time, saying the two were engineered in parallel. The car made its public dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last week, and the report notes an early look at the V8 firing up. The GR GT uses a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a hybrid drivetrain, targeting 641 bhp and 627 lb-ft to the rear wheels via a carbonfibre-reinforced torque tube. Toyota has not released final performance figures beyond a target top speed of at least 198 mph, while a 0–62 mph time around 3.5 seconds is suggested. The engine features a hot-vee layout with dry-sump lubrication and a slim oil pan.
