What Daimler's Finance And Global Chiefs Revealed About Diesel, Driverless Trucks, And The Future Of The Industry
Daimler Truck Financial Services’ top executives used a leadership panel in Charlotte to outline how diesel regulations, driverless expectations, and the cost of borrowing are shaping the trucking outlook. The event brought together CFO Eva Scherer of Daimler Truck Holding AG, Stephan Unger, chairman of Daimler Truck Financial Services (operating across 21 countries), Kevin Bangston, president and CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services USA, and Goetz Johanning, head of strategy for North American financial services. On emissions, Scherer said Daimler is marketing a fully EPA 2027-compliant Detroit engine without relying on emission-credit games or penalties as a workaround. She said the new engine shares about two-thirds of parts with the current generation and targets roughly 3% better fuel economy. Yet Scherer noted there was no “pre-buy” rush after the September 2027 price list, attributing the lack of orders to uncertainty over final rules and penalty structures.
