Who is Slavko Vincic? Spain vs Argentina referee for World Cup final
Slavko Vincic is set to be the main referee for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday, extending Slovenia’s presence at the sport’s highest level. Vincic will be assisted by fellow Slovenes Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic, a first for the country as no Slovenian referee has previously led a World Cup final. The 46-year-old said the appointment came as a “shock,” followed by “happiness,” and described it as an “incredible honour.” He brings top-flight European experience, officiating the 2024 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. He also handled the 2022 World Cup opener for Argentina, which ended in their surprise loss to Saudi Arabia, and he has since worked multiple matches in the competition, including games involving Brazil, Algeria, and Mexico.
