Why one Ducati rider thinks upcoming MotoGP Pirelli test is "not fair

The upcoming MotoGP Pirelli test at Brno is drawing scrutiny from riders who say the arrangements are not entirely fair. The test will be the first official run for the 850cc machines due in 2027 and will give many current riders their first chance to sample Pirelli tyres designed for the new era. However, not all riders will participate; Fabio Quartararo will skip riding for Yamaha, and Fabio Di Giannantonio will not ride for Ducati. Departing riders are reportedly reluctant to reveal data to rivals. Di Giannantonio argues the split participation could disadvantage those still with contracts and limit the feedback loop for tyre development. He said some peers may be able to comment on a riding style different from others, potentially steering development in ways that leave non-participants behind. The rider also emphasized that while a factory's decision to withhold access might benefit their team in the short term, it risks undermining collective progress and fairness across manufacturers ahead of the 2027 rules. He called for equal opportunity to test for all teams and riders, regardless of future manufacturer alignment.
