ABC says US TV regulator pushing Trump politics by targeting 'The View'
ABC, owned by Disney, urged the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to reject a proposal that would subject its daytime talk show “The View” to federal equal time rules for political candidates while leaving conservative talk radio outside the same scrutiny. In a filing dated Tuesday, July 7, ABC said the FCC’s actions “are already chilling speech ahead of the fast-approaching 2026 general election.” The FCC had been investigating whether “The View” violated equal time rules after an appearance by Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico. ABC argued the First Amendment forbids the government from choosing which programs qualify as legitimate news, warning the proposal would force stations to provide airtime to guests they did not select. The article notes that more than 77,000 comments were filed, with most supporting ABC.
