Dwayne Johnson Finds His Next Action Movie From Ben Affleck & Matt Damon
Dwayne Johnson is set to star in Free Byrd, an action-leaning drama centered on a motorcycle stuntman trying to conceal a dementia diagnosis from those around him while attempting a final jump, according to Variety. The film will be directed by Greg Kwedar, who recently received Best Director Oscar nominations for Sing Sing and Train Dreams. Johnson’s role continues a shift the article describes from largely physical action work toward more dramatic material, following The Smashing Machine, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Free Byrd is produced through Artists Equity, the company led by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who also previously co-developed projects including Air, The Accountant 2, and this year’s The Rip. Affleck and Damon are quoted praising Kwedar and Johnson’s talent for the project.
