Arizona volleyball finds winning combination in reverse sweep of San Diego State

Arizona volleyball staged a reverse sweep to beat San Diego State 3-2 in the Aztecs’ home opener after dropping the first two sets 25-16 and 25-19. The Wildcats then won the next two 25-18 and 25-19 before closing the match 15-8. Head coach Rita Stubbs credited team cohesion and point-by-point focus, along with multiple lineup and tactical adjustments. The key issue early was Arizona’s blocking: in the first two sets, the team had just one block total, and San Diego State repeatedly got contact on balls that looked headed out. After adjustments, Arizona finished with 13 total blocks, led by Journey Tucker’s eight. Tucker also produced offensively with eight kills and a .571 hitting percentage.
