Below Review: Josh Hartnett Is Great, but the Netflix Small-Town Seaside Horror Series Can't Sustain Its Compelling Premise

Below is now streaming on Netflix. Set in a tiny remote coastal town, the drama/horror series arrives amid comparisons to Widow’s Bay, another sea-set show released earlier this year. Josh Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, whose trauma stems from his family’s forced move from Little Pot Rock to Snook’s Arm. In the 1986 opening, a house towed behind a small boat is pulled under; Calvin’s father, Leo, drowns after Calvin cuts the line. Fast forward 40 years: the town harvests flaked-off iceberg for iceberg vodka, while animals and people begin dying near the water.
