Channel 4's 340 job cuts a 'further blow' to struggling UK industry, Bectu says
Channel 4’s decision to cut 340 jobs has been branded “deeply worrying” by Bectu, the UK creative industries trade union, arguing it adds pressure to an already strained television sector. The layoffs were confirmed to staff by Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra during lunchtime at its London headquarters, following an internal strategic review. Dogra said the broadcaster is eliminating 28% of its workforce by year-end, citing a sharp drop in advertising revenue and falling linear audiences. Channel 4 says it will begin the first phase of a long-term transformation, reducing non-programming spend through a new organizational design that trims management layers, simplifies decisions and removes duplication. A formal consultation process will now begin with affected employees.
