'Crew Girl,' Netflix's latest YA show, rowing and romance go hand in hand

Netflix’s new eight-episode YA series “Crew Girl” premieres Thursday, centering on a rowing team at a posh private school in fictional Eagle’s Cove, Massachusetts. The story follows Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau), a championship rower whose plans for Stanford and Olympic glory are derailed when her hotelier father flees after defrauding investors out of millions. Her mother, Ella (Jessica Paré), relocates the family and enrolls Teagan at Eaton Prep, which has a men’s rowing team but no female rowers. With limited options, Teagan becomes a coxswain, while a triangular romance develops with teammates Cam and Josh. The series also explores funding and trust issues as the team’s fortunes rise.
