Dan Lin Was Fired for Being Dan Lin

Dan Lin will no longer serve as Netflix’s film chief, according to the streamer, with Lin writing in an exit email that Bela Bajaria’s advice was simply “Be yourself.” Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, was let go last week as the company reshapes its screen content operations. Lin was hired in spring 2024 to rein in spending and improve the quality of the slate, including moving away from expensive projects such as $300 million movies from the Russo brothers. Reports ahead of his exit described a blunt communication style that unsettled some filmmakers, though one insider said David Fincher’s departure plans were unrelated. Lin’s slate included War Machine (released February) and Remarkably Bright Creatures (released May).
