Disney+ Canceling Its New Action Show With 91% on RT Will Go Down as 1 of TV's Biggest Fumbles

Disney+ has canceled Wonder Man, a Marvel Studios series, despite the MCU’s recent momentum from Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s record-setting box office start and earlier expectations for renewal. A report from Variety said Wonder Man writers were released from their contracts even though Disney+ had announced in March that it wanted a second season. Series creator Destin Daniel Cretton previously called the premise a “joke pitch” and a creative risk, saying Marvel reexamined it during the 2023 Hollywood strikes but kept it moving. The show starred Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Sir Ben Kingsley, focusing largely on their work as actors in Hollywood.
