Disney laying off a few hundred employees, source says

Walt Disney will lay off a few hundred employees across human resources and technology departments, a source told Reuters on Tuesday. The cuts come amid leadership changes since Josh D’Amaro became CEO in March, including the appointment of Paul Roeder, a 25-year company veteran, as chief communications officer. The report links the restructuring to a “transformational” period for the entertainment company, shaped by artificial intelligence, declining box office revenue, and intensifying competition from streaming rivals. Disney employed about 231,000 people as of fiscal year-end 2025, with 172,000 in the U.S. and 59,000 outside the country. Further job reductions included about 1,000 positions eliminated in April in marketing, plus 7,000 cuts in 2023 to save $5.5 billion.
