A former Georgia nonprofit employee, Jennifer O’Neal, 63, of Cedartown, pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $100,000 from CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Polk & Haralson, federal prosecutors said. Prosecutors said O’Neal worked as a program specialist responsible for processing payroll and reimbursements, and from 2018 to 2022 repeatedly issued fraudulent payments to herself and others. Some alleged payments were disguised as inflated mileage for court appearances or trips that prosecutors say never happened. Other charges included restaurants, groceries, utilities, clothing, and CASA funds allegedly covering O’Neal’s power, water, sewage, and cell phone bills. Prosecutors said some money went to Six Flags, a Netflix subscription, softball equipment, lingerie, and home theater items. O’Neal stole $96,713. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 17.
