Feared Glasgow street gang boss probed over jewels stolen from Princess Di's mum

Jimmy Donnelly, 80, a former figure in Glasgow’s Calton Tongs gang, says police investigated him over jewelry stolen from Frances Shand Kydd, the mother of Princess Diana. Donnelly, known as JD, grew up in Glasgow’s Calton area and later helped lead what he describes as the gang’s rise from street violence into organized crime. Police believed he was involved in a 2002 raid targeting £100,000 in stolen jewels at Shand Kydd’s home on the Isle of Seil near Oban. Donnelly denied any link, was never charged, and alleged damage of £50,000 after officers raided his Glasgow home with what he said were submachine guns.
