HBO's 8-Part Crime Thriller Officially Beats 'The Lincoln Lawyer' at Its Own Game

HBO’s new anthology series “War” is positioning itself as a long-term answer to legal-crime drama fatigue, arriving Oct. 1, 2026 with eight episodes. The series follows Carla Duval (Sienna Miller) and Morgan Henderson (Dominic West), an actor and a tech businessman going through a divorce. While the premise delivers immediate court and conflict stakes, HBO has built in continuity through an anthology structure, supported by a two-season order. The approach is meant to avoid repeating character arcs until they lose impact. The piece contrasts this with the nearing end of Netflix’s “The Lincoln Lawyer,” where a focus on a spin-off involving Emi Finch (Cobie Smulders) is framed as a weaker move.
