Hijack hero knew how to fly plane - after watching TV doc

Israeli truck driver Yaniv Hayoun said he learned how to respond to an aircraft nose-dive after watching the TV documentary “Air Crash Investigation.” His real-life test came on Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, about an hour before landing on Wednesday, when a woman in the front shouted that someone was stabbing the pilot. Hayoun ran to the cockpit as the aircraft dropped roughly 14,000–15,000 ft in under a minute, forced the door open, and helped stop the hijacker. After tying the suspect with headphone cables and luggage straps, Hayoun guarded the cockpit while an off-duty pilot took control and the plane made an emergency landing in Saudi.
