Kinda cool' Raygun made breakdancing famous, Asian Games B-girls say
Rachael “Raygun” Gunn’s Olympic breakdancing performance at Paris 2024 made her famous for the wrong reasons, but several Asian Games “B-girls” offered support on Friday, saying she made breakdancing more visible. At the Paris Games, the 39-year-old Australian drew ridicule after an unconventional routine that included kangaroo hops and mimicking a sprinkler, with her green tracksuit widely parodied online. Gunn later retired from competition after months of intense scrutiny in Australia and launched legal action tied to the controversy. In Nagoya at the Asian Games, Kazakhstan’s Sayora Alibekova said breaking can use different ideas and that no one should be hated for “just dancing.” Japan, Thailand and others echoed that view, arguing there’s “no wrong or right” in breaking and praising Gunn’s confidence.
