Jazz Loft Brings Three Days of Music to Stony Brook Southampton
Jazz Loft will bring three days of music to Stony Brook Southampton, with performances scheduled for July 23 and July 24 in the evenings and a July 25 schedule starting in the early afternoon. The program will span classic swing, Latin jazz, New Orleans jazz, contemporary interpretations, and stride piano. Performers include Grammy-nominated Chembo Corniel, Judy Carmichael, and Mark Wade, a Bassist-of-the-Year finalist, along with their bands. The series opens at 7 p.m. on July 23 with “Birth of the Cool” featuring trumpeter Miles Davis and a New York ensemble that includes vocalist Rahsaan Cruse Jr. On July 24 at 7 p.m., the Chembo Corniel Latin Jazz Quintet will perform “Afro-Cuban” and contemporary jazz as the only show that evening, while July 25 includes sets by The Equity Brass Band at 2 p.m., the Pasquale Grasso Quartet after that, and multiple pre- and post-concert trios before Judy Carmichael concludes. Beyond concerts, there will be an LP listening session and a memorabilia and photography display. Tickets range from $22.50 per performance for students to $150 for an all-access pass.
