Just 6 Days, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Dethrones One of the Biggest Sci-Fi Action Epics of All Time

Six days after release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has topped $1 billion worldwide and knocked screens into IMAX for the week, effectively ending The Odyssey’s exclusive run. The film became this year’s fourth title to reach a billion dollars, following Toy Story 5, Michael, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and it has climbed quickly on the domestic charts. It opened with a $360 million domestic debut and grossed $407 million in the U.S. after six days, edging past The Odyssey at $405 million. The article says the movie was in development as early as 2024, with Destin Daniel Cretton initially tagged to direct, and was pushed to July 31, 2026 to avoid clashing with The Odyssey.
