Oman, Iran Agree on Framework to Restore Navigation Through Strait of Hormuz - Al-Manar TV Lebanon

Oman and Iran agreed on a phased plan to restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz while protecting their sovereign rights, according to a joint statement released Tuesday after talks in Tehran. The agreement came from meetings between Oman’s foreign minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and Iran’s counterpart Abbas Araghchi. The framework is meant to offer a “practical and implementable basis” for navigation restoration through a temporary joint navigational corridor and a joint project to clear mines. Technical negotiations will continue on a permanent corridor, future administration of the strait, information-sharing, traffic management, and security and navigational services. Both countries urged consultations with regional states bordering the Persian Gulf, emphasizing international law and coastal-state sovereignty.
