Prince's estate hit back as 'concerns' raised over use of AI in posthumous music

Prince’s estate has responded to concerns that artificial intelligence was used in the posthumous track “Calabama,” released on the album Timeless, Prince’s fourth posthumous record. Prince died on April 21, 2016, at age 57. The estate said fans raised questions about credits, timing and arrangement, particularly at the bridge where the archived multitrack includes a synthesizer line dubbed later by horn players. According to the statement shared on Instagram, horn musicians Greg Boyer, Adrian Crutchfield and Lynn Grissett overdubbed the intended horn part on the existing Prince material. The estate said no AI was used on any Prince music, and that all other Timeless recordings used overdubs only on “Calabama.”
