RTÉ celebrates 100 years of radio in style
RTÉ marked its 100 years on air with a commemorative concert at the National Concert Hall on Saturday night. The event, part of the broadcaster’s centenary programming, was staged as RTÉ 100: In Concert and blended music, spoken-word poetry, and archival material to trace a century of broadcasting. Host Aedín Gormley said radio has guided the public through celebrations, anguish and grief while connecting people. Taoiseach Micheál Martin also appeared, calling it an honor to be part of the special occasion. Performers included the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and a roster of musicians and presenters: Zoe Conway, Edwina Guckian, Olivia O’Leary, Iarla Ó Lionáird, Cathy Jordan, Piaras Ó Lorcáin, Loah, John Francis Flynn, and Oliver Callan. Broadcaster Myles Dungan read about singer Delia Murphy and her role in helping Jewish people evade Nazi capture in Rome.
