SEC Championship Hero, Mississippi State World Series Outfielder, Dies At 47

Former Mississippi State baseball outfielder Josh West has died at 47. West was a key piece of the Bulldogs’ 2001 SEC Tournament championship run, highlighted by a game-winning catch against LSU. He also contributed to Mississippi State’s 1998 College World Series team and finished his senior season in 2001 as the program’s RBI leader, batting .282 with five home runs while totaling 49 RBIs. An All-SEC Tournament Team selection followed. He made an immediate impact after arriving in Starkville with a home run in his first collegiate at-bat. No cause of death was provided.
