Terrible loss': Baltimore musician reflects on Dolly Parton covering his song

Donagh Long, a Baltimore-based songwriter who wrote a track for Dolly Parton, said her death was a “terrible loss.” Parton, who died on Tuesday, recorded and later covered Long’s song “You’ll Never Be The Sun” on an album she made with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt in 1999. Long explained that the song first went to Dolores Keane, and that Harris later asked to sing harmonies when Keane was recording it. He said it was remarkable that three high-profile singers recorded one of his compositions. Long noted that since the trio’s cover, more than 500 artists have performed the song.
