The One About Matthew Perry' Review: Netflix's Intimate and Sincere but Overly Padded Docuseries

Netflix’s three-part docuseries The One About Matthew Perry, directed by Mary Robertson, arrives without the usual star-studded access: none of Perry’s Friends co-stars appear, nor do major show creative figures, including other key voices beyond limited representation from people like writer Jeff Strauss and producers tied to earlier projects. Reviews describe the series as intimate and generally non-exploitative, focusing on Perry’s long struggle with addiction and his death in the fall of 2023 from a ketamine overdose. The critique argues the narrative leans on established biographical material and nostalgia rather than new revelations, with some of the discussion centered more on celebrity than Perry himself.
