Twisty and gritty' BBC crime thriller must watch for fans of Line of Duty
BBC’s crime thriller “Vigil” is being promoted as a must-watch for viewers who enjoyed “Line of Duty,” with attention focused on its tense, enclosed setting aboard a Royal Navy ballistic missile submarine. The series, created by Tom Edge and produced by World Productions, debuted on BBC One in August 2021 with six episodes. It stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Paterson Joseph, Gary Lewis, and Martin Compston, and it follows a death aboard HMS Vigil soon after a Scottish fishing trawler goes missing. The first series pits police inquiries against the Royal Navy and MI5. A second season arrived in December 2023, and a third was renewed in early 2025 with filming starting in September 2025. Reception highlighted reviews and fan comments on Rotten Tomatoes, praising its “brutal” tone and suspense.
