AstraZeneca Wins EU Approval for Breast-Cancer Drug as U.S. Review Continues

AstraZeneca said it has secured European Union approval for camizestrant, sold in the EU as Etcamah, as a treatment for adults with advanced breast cancer. The approval came Thursday and is for a combination regimen, expanding access to a drug the company says benefits from additional international clearances. AstraZeneca noted earlier approvals in Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. In the U.S., the Food and Drug Administration has continued its review after extending the decision deadline to evaluate updated results from the trial used for its application. The company said the Etcamah combination lowered the risk of disease progression or death versus standard-of-care, while follow-up continues to assess whether overall survival improves. The EU authorization adds market momentum while regulators finalize the U.S. decision.
