Clayface Trailer Exposes CRISPR's Real Unsolved Problem in Gene Therapy

The full trailer for Clayface is out, and its central horror premise is rooted in a real CRISPR challenge: off-target genetic changes. The film, which opens in theaters Oct. 23, follows Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries), whose face is torn apart by a crime boss. He turns to Dr. Caitlin Corr (Naomi Ackie), undergoing experimental gene therapy that initially restores him before causing an irreversible, whole-body transformation. Director James Watkins, who cites Jaws as a marketing model, is keeping Hagen’s final form hidden until audiences are in the theater. The movie is the DC Universe’s first R-rated, Gotham-set horror entry.
