Cobb County Jail detainee dies in hospital, sheriff's office says
A detainee in the Cobb County Jail died in hospital after going into cardiac arrest over the weekend, according to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. Robert Hardy, 64, died Sunday at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center, the sheriff’s office said Monday. Hardy had been booked into the jail on June 11 on charges including first-degree arson, driving over a fire hose, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license. Deputies reported that on Saturday they found Hardy in cardiac arrest. Medical staff provided immediate aid, moved him to Kennestone, and placed him on a ventilator. The sheriff’s office said there was no viable path to recovery and his family ended care. The agency is conducting an internal review, and the Cobb County Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
