Coos Bay man pleads guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud

A Coos Bay man, Mehrdad Gerami, pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud. Prosecutors said the scheme involved Coastal Diagnostic Testing Group, which Gerami has owned and operated since 2021. Court documents allege the company overcharged the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Veterans’ Health Administration, and multiple private insurers for in-office sleep studies, billing for costlier office tests when cheaper at-home tests were conducted—or for studies that never occurred. Gerami, 67, faces up to 10 years in prison and has agreed to full restitution. Sentencing is set for Jan. 26, 2027.
