DaVita Dialysis Center closed in Novi as police investigate patient death, illnesses
A DaVita Dialysis Center in Novi has been closed after police and state officials opened an investigation into a patient death and illnesses among other dialysis patients. The inquiry began Sunday when Novi police and fire departments were notified of a possible missing person: a 72-year-old patient last seen earlier that day at the DaVita center on Providence Parkway. Officers later found the individual deceased inside a vehicle, with police stating there was no indication of foul play. During the investigation, police contacted the Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital and learned that several recent patients from the Novi DaVita center sought medical care, including one admitted to the intensive care unit, and a fifth person admitted after treatment at a DaVita location in Southfield. Investigators said they have not established a connection between the death or illnesses and DaVita treatment, but Oakland County Health Division ordered the closure as a precaution while investigations continue.
