Dying Pediatric Doctor Named Intruder in Home Invasion, Police Say

A Pennsylvania man, Elijah Hemingway, was arrested after police allege he entered a couple’s home through a rear window, stabbed them while they slept, and killed Pittsburgh physician Idris Evans while critically injuring Evans’ wife. Authorities said officers responded to a stabbing call at 12:31 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Linden Avenue in Edgewood. Evans died later; his wife remained in critical condition. A Monroeville Police K-9 team found Hemingway hiding behind a nearby residence and took him into custody. Police say evidence indicates the couple fought back, and that the children were inside but not hurt, escaping to a neighbor.
