Egypt to restructure military-linked 'Future of Egypt' economic body
Egypt will restructure “Future of Egypt,” a military-linked economic body focused on agricultural and industrial development and importing commodities, into an overarching economic authority that reports directly to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Reuters reports the president ratified the restructuring law, published in Egypt’s official gazette on Monday. The new framework lets the authority absorb state land and companies, run tax-exempt “sustainable development zones,” and operate other funds. Since 2024, Future of Egypt has managed one of the world’s largest wheat import operations, taken control of major lakes and fisheries, gained the largest stake in the Egyptian Commodities Exchange, and expanded into areas including luxury housing, renewable energy, and infant formula.
