Ex-QB plays role in CTE diagnosis | Arkansas Democrat Gazette

Matt Hasselbeck is helping researchers move toward diagnosing chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in living people. The 50-year-old former NFL quarterback, who played 17 seasons and spent four years at Boston College, spent two days at Boston University undergoing a battery of scans and tests to assess how his head collisions affected his brain. CTE, a degenerative disease linked to concussions and other head trauma, has been diagnosed in more than 100 former NFL players, and it can currently only be diagnosed after death. Hasselbeck’s participation is part of a study led by Michael Alosco, aiming to expand to hundreds of participants across multiple states.
