How celebrity agent kept rape crimes secret for years

Entertainment and sports agent Ralph Carr spent years trying to keep his identity—and his sex crimes—out of the spotlight, arguing his mental health risked worsening if the name became public. The 66-year-old, now in prison, was exposed on Monday as a convicted rapist after a Melbourne County Court case. When Carr was charged in 2023, defense barrister Dermot Dann KC secured a suppression order that kept his name from media reporting, with court evidence in December 2024 stating the issue was “central” to the order. The prosecution and multiple outlets opposed the order. It was meant to expire at the end of Friday’s trial, but Dann obtained an interim gag order again. Carr’s name later leaked online until he asked the court to revoke the order on Monday. The judge found he committed two counts of rape and one of sexual assault. AFL player Dustin Martin said he ended his professional relationship with Carr immediately.
