How one grandmother stays positive despite three bouts of cancer
xCruzo Brief
Kirsty Priest, 53, from Stourbridge in the West Midlands, says she has faced three separate cancer diagnoses in 15 years: stage three breast cancer twice, and a brain tumour earlier this year. After breast cancer first struck at 38, she underwent a mastectomy plus surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and 18 months of Herceptin. About 10 years later a new lump led to a second mastectomy and further treatment, and doctors then identified a CHEK2 gene mutation that can at least double lifetime breast cancer risk. Following removal of the brain tumour, she is in remission and has raised £11,500 for Russells Hall Hospital’s breast cancer ward, while continuing fundraising and support work.
