Huge warning extended to people taking blood pressure medication - AOL

The UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has extended its warning about limited supplies of ramipril, a commonly prescribed blood pressure and heart failure medicine. A notification dated September 7 says supplies of ramipril 1.25mg, 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg capsules are expected to remain limited until the end of October 2026. The shortage has been classified as “tier 2 - medium impact.” While ramipril tablets are still available, DHSC says they cannot support an increase in demand. Alternative treatments exist, including other ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers, but routine switching is not recommended because they are less frequently used. A serious shortage protocol allows pharmacists to restrict supply to one month and dispense reduced quantities. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency issued four precautionary recalls between February and May.
