Larry Christenson, 1980 World Series champ, dies at 72

Larry Christenson, the pitcher who won the 1980 World Series with the Philadelphia Phillies, died unexpectedly Friday at 72, the team announced. The Phillies said they did not know the cause of death, adding that Christenson was on a fishing trip with family and friends in his native Washington state at the time. Drafted in the first round (third overall) in 1972 out of Marysville High School, he debuted in MLB on April 13, 1973, against the New York Mets, throwing a complete game in a 7-1 win. He spent his entire 11-season career in Philadelphia, going 83-71 with a 3.79 ERA in 220 starts across 1973-83. He also hit 11 homers.
