Man and woman die after crash with HGV in West Lancashire
A man and a woman died after a crash involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Volvo HGV near a hospital in Wrightington, West Lancashire, police said. Officers were called to Hall Lane after 8am on July 9 following the collision in which the car, traveling east, failed to negotiate a bend and crossed into the path of the heavy goods vehicle in the opposite carriageway, resulting in a head-on impact. The driver of the Golf, a man in his 70s, and the passenger, a woman in her 60s, suffered serious injuries and both died. The HGV driver was described as shocked but uninjured and is being treated as a witness. The road was closed while police investigated but has since reopened. Sgt Martin Wilcock appealed for witnesses and dashcam, CCTV, or Ring footage, quoting log 0297.
