Manzambi, Jackson and Buendia fire Villa to first win as Spurs' misery deepens
Aston Villa ended a frustrating start to the Premier League season with a 3-2 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, while Spurs sank deeper into trouble with yet another defeat. Villa’s breakthrough arrived in first-half stoppage time: £50 million summer signing Johan Manzambi scored in his first start after Tottenham lost possession in their own penalty area. Nicolas Jackson doubled the lead in the 67th minute, and Emi Buendia struck with 11 minutes left to seal the visitors’ advantage. Conor Gallagher scored late for Spurs and Jan Paul van Hecke added in injury time, but Mohammed Kudus’s early second-half goal was ruled out after Andy Robertson was offside in the build-up. Villa moved to 15th with four points from five games; Tottenham remained in the relegation zone on two points.
