Mark Cuban Says AI Could 'Collapse' Big Healthcare Companies - UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH)
Billionaire investor Mark Cuban told an a16z podcast episode that artificial intelligence could “collapse” major healthcare companies by exposing how contracts and incentives keep costs high. Cuban argued the near-term impact of AI in healthcare may be less clinical than financial, by analyzing contract terms before employers, hospitals and other organizations sign agreements. He described the healthcare system as inefficient due to complex, hard-to-negotiate deals involving entities such as pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). Using a hypothetical, Cuban suggested employers could ask an AI agent to identify where they’re getting a “bad deal,” then decide what to negotiate. He also cited a scenario where employers covering 160M+ Americans process contracts through AI, potentially pressuring large players like UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH).
