Saifiti boosts Bati forward depth for World Cup

Newcastle prop Jacob Saifiti has been named in Fiji’s 23-man squad for the World Cup opener, a major boost for the Bati ahead of their round one match against the Cook Islands in Newcastle on October 18. The pick comes after Saifiti had served a four-match ban for a high shot on Warriors winger Luke Laulilii in the Knights’ 46-32 round 26 defeat. With the club playing all four finals and getting the bye in the final regular round, his suspension is now fully completed. Fiji’s selection is also strengthened by the unavailability of Tui Kamikamica (illness) and Viliame Kikau (fractured eye socket). Kurt Donoghoe, Sunia Turuva, and co-captain Api Koroisau are also included.
