Families of September 11 responders and victims are set to get an additional moment of silence at this year’s Ground Zero ceremony, following growing evidence of 9/11-related illnesses and deaths. CNN reports that New York City released more than 170,000 pages of previously undisclosed records on Tuesday showing officials at the time misled the public about air quality around Ground Zero. The program-funded care for 9/11 exposures has expanded: as of June, more than 57,000 responders and survivors in the World Trade Center Health Program had been diagnosed with cancer, and as of March 2024 nearly 7,000 had died. The seventh bell will ring after the traditional six.
