Turning the GEAR: How China drives global supply chains upgrading
At the fourth China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) in Beijing, Chinese officials and industry figures framed supply-chain upgrading around a “GEAR” model—Green, Ecosystem, AI, and Resilience—arguing that China both participates in and helps drive global logistics and manufacturing improvements. The event, described as the first national-level expo dedicated exclusively to supply chains, runs alongside participation from more than 1,200 exhibitors from 85 countries, regions, and international organizations, with foreign firms accounting for over 36%. In the “Green” dimension, the report says China’s total installed power generation capacity reached 4.01 billion kilowatts by end of May 2026, with non-fossil energy rising to 62% from 25% in 2010. It also claims China has helped cut global wind and solar project average costs by more than 60% and 80% over the past decade. The expo showcased clean-energy and automotive value chains, citing companies and partnerships including Ming Yang Smart Energy, CATL, Bosch, Volvo, XPENG, and Tesla.
