Women Lead Advances in Nanomedicine, Sensors and Nanofluidics in New
A new edited collection in Frontiers in Nanotechnology spotlights women’s leadership across the field, timed to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in February 2026. Titled “Women in nanotechnology volume II,” the Research Topic brings together two reviews and four original research articles, all led by women as senior and corresponding authors. Editors include Ilika Ghosh (Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience), Benedetta Marmiroli (Graz University of Technology), Vania Silverio (INESC Microsistemas e Nanotecnologias/Instituto Superior Técnico), and Zeinab Ramezani (University of Miami). The six papers span areas from single-cell biophysics and bone regeneration to environmental sensing, spectroscopy, metrology, and plant biotechnology. The editorial cites UNESCO data and Nobel trends to argue persistent gender imbalance, with women still about one-third of global researchers and underrepresented among senior roles.
