AAA: 5.7 million Texans expected to travel over July Fourth week
AAA expects about 5.7 million Texans to travel at least 50 miles from home during the July Fourth period, running Saturday, June 27 through Sunday, July 5. The forecast is up 0.2% versus last year and 10.3% higher than 2019. Road trips remain the dominant mode, with 4.9 million Texans expected to drive, while travel by other modes—including cruises, buses and trains—shows the biggest year-over-year growth. AAA projects 564,000 Texans will fly, roughly matching last year and up 17% from 2019, and it expects 249,000 to use buses, trains or cruises, up 2.3% year over year. For domestic flights nationally, AAA estimates 5.85 million travelers, with average roundtrip ticket prices around $830. AAA also flags higher holiday-road risk, citing impaired driving concerns and more teen drivers.
