Air Algerie resumes Tripoli flights after 12-year hiatus
xCruzo Brief
Air Algerie has restarted direct flights to Tripoli after nearly 12 years, with the Government of National Unity media office saying service resumed on Wednesday. The airline will initially run two flights per week. The restart follows years of disruption after Libya’s 2014 civil war, when international carriers largely halted flights amid conflict between rival administrations in the east and west after the 2011 fall of Muammar Gaddafi. A 2020 ceasefire reduced fighting, but political efforts have failed, with occasional clashes over control of economic resources. The reopening ceremony was held at Mitiga airport, Tripoli’s only operating airport, after UN International Civil Aviation Organization airspace restrictions were lifted.
