Cherished Fisher family tribute survives Ballinamallard clubhouse fire
A cherished family tribute associated with Ballinamallard United has survived a clubhouse fire at Ballinamallard Football Club, even as the building became unusable after last month’s blaze. While the damage can eventually be repaired, parts of the decades-long collection of memorabilia were destroyed, prompting immediate fears for the Fisher display. The surviving item is a wall-mounted tribute to Bertie and Mark Fisher, featuring a cabinet of trophies and motorsport memorabilia honoring the rally achievements of two respected figures in Fermanagh. The display carries additional significance due to the Fisher family’s long relationship with the club: Bertie supported Ballinamallard United, and his father Tommy Fisher served as the club’s first president after its reformation in 1975, a role now held by Bertie’s brother Ernie. Family members say insurers later allowed entry, and the cabinet was found in good condition aside from smoke damage. Plans are to restore the clubhouse and keep the tribute in the club; it originally came from the Mallard Bar before being gifted after the bar’s refurbishment in 2004 and relocation discussions.
